Frequently Asked Questions About SPC Vinyl

What is SPC flooring?

SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) flooring is a type of vinyl flooring that provides durability, waterproof properties, and a realistic wood-like appearance. It is made from a core of limestone and plastic, providing superior stability and resilience.

What are the benefits of SPC vinyl?

Dreamwood’s SPC vinyl offers numerous benefits:

  1. Waterproofing: Perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, and other moisture-prone areas.
  2. Durability: Resistant to fading, dents, and scratches, making it suitable for high-traffic areas and commercial spaces.
  3. Environmental Friendliness: Made with non-toxic materials and often includes recycled content.
  4. Easy Maintenance: Easy to clean and maintain without harsh chemicals.
  5. Versatility: Suitable for various environments, from residential homes to commercial sites.

How is SPC different from laminate or engineered wood?

While similar in look, SPC differs in composition and performance from laminate and engineered wood. SPC has a rigid core made from limestone and plastic, making it more durable and waterproof. Laminate flooring has a wood-based core, which can be susceptible to moisture, while engineered wood is made from layers of real wood, offering a more authentic look but less moisture resistance.

What applications does SPC flooring suit?

SPC flooring is ideal for both residential and commercial applications.

Its waterproof nature makes it perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, while its durability and easy maintenance make it ideal for living areas, offices, and retail spaces.

How do I clean and maintain SPC flooring?

Cleaning and maintaining SPC flooring is simple:

  1. Regularly sweep or vacuum to remove dirt and debris.
  2. Occasionally mop your flooring with a damp cloth and mild cleaner.
  3. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive tools to maintain its finish.

Is SPC flooring environmentally friendly?

Yes, SPC flooring is environmentally friendly due to its use of non-toxic materials, incorporation of recycled content, and low emissions during production. Its long lifespan (15-25+ years) reduces the need for frequent replacements, minimising environmental impact.

Additionally, easy maintenance and incredible durability reduce the need for harsh cleaning chemicals, contributing to a healthier indoor environment.

Installation Process

1. Preparing the Subfloor

Where necessary, we remove any existing flooring, ensuring the subfloor is clean and dry.

2. Acclimate the Planks

We bring the SPC planks into the room to acclimate to the temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours.

3. Layout Planning

Next, we plan the layout, ensuring minimal waste and a balanced look for the room.

4. Installation

Starting from one corner, we lay the planks with a click-lock mechanism, using spacers to maintain expansion gaps around the room’s perimeter.

5. Cutting

We cut planks as needed to fit around obstacles and edges.

6. Finishing Touches

We finish the installation by installing trim and moulding to cover expansion gaps.
