Frequently Asked Questions About Laminate Flooring
What is an AC4 rating for laminate flooring?
An AC4 rating for laminate flooring indicates high durability and resistance to wear, suitable for moderate to heavy foot traffic. Dreamwood’s laminate flooring aligns with these standards, so you can be confident in its ability to withstand heavier levels of foot traffic.
What are the advantages of choosing laminate flooring over solid hardwood?
Laminate flooring comes at a lower cost, with easier installation, and is much more resistant to scratches and moisture. Plus, with a wide range of styles available, you can have the look of hardwood with lesser maintenance requirements.
How long does laminate flooring last?
With the right care and maintenance, you can expect laminate flooring to last 15 – 25 years, ensuring a long-term flooring solution for your space.
Is laminate flooring a sustainable solution?
Our laminate products incorporate recycled materials and utilise eco-friendly manufacturing practices. Additionally, laminate requires less wood compared to solid hardwood flooring, making it a more environmentally friendly option in some cases.
How do I clean and maintain laminate flooring?
Here are our key tips for cleaning and maintaining your laminate flooring:
- Regularly sweep or vacuum to remove dust and debris.
- Use a damp mop and mild cleanser formulated for laminate floors.
- Avoid excessive water or harsh cleaning agents, which can damage the laminate.
- Clean any spills promptly to prevent moisture damage.
- Use felt pads to prevent scratching the flooring.
Is laminate flooring suitable for households with pets?
Laminate flooring offers a practical solution for households with pets, thanks to its scratch resistance and low maintenance needs. However, make sure you trim your pet’s nails regularly to minimise the risk of scratches and consider placing rugs or mats in high-traffic areas to further protect the floor.
Is Dreamwood laminate an ideal commercial flooring solution?
Dreamwood’s laminate flooring is an excellent option for commercial spaces due to its durability, aesthetic versatility, and suitability for high-traffic areas. With its AC4 rating and wide range of styles, our laminate can withstand the demands of commercial environments while offering a stylish and functional flooring solution.
Installation Process
1. Preparing the Space
Before starting, we ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level, removing obstacles and trim door casings if necessary for a smooth installation process.
2. Acclimate the Laminate
The laminate flooring must acclimate to the room’s temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours before installation, helping to prevent expansion or contraction post-installation.
3. Install Underlayment
Next, we lay the underlayment to provide cushioning, moisture protection, and sound insulation. We’ll ensure seams are properly sealed and trim excess underlayment along the room’s edges.
4. Plan the Layout
We carefully measure the room and plan the layout to ensure a balanced appearance and minimal waste, starting from the longest, straightest wall.
5. Installing the Rows
We begin laying the first row of laminate flooring, ensuring the tongue side faces the wall. We use spacers to maintain expansion gaps and tap the planks together using a tapping block and hammer. We then install the subsequent rows, staggering end joints and trimming planks as needed.
6. Finishing Touches
Once all rows are installed, we remove spacers and install baseboards or quarter-round moulding to cover expansion gaps and provide a finished look. We’ll inspect the flooring for any gaps or imperfections, making any necessary adjustments before you can enjoy your newly installed laminate flooring.
